Information on how to audition for DUOS this year
This year's auditions will be slightly different to normal and will be entirely online. We have opted for this format in order to reduce face-to-face interaction given the current circumstances. This year’s audition panel will be chaired by the President and will also include the conductors of the Symphony and Chamber Orchestras.
Auditions will be in the the form of video submissions - uploaded to the following Google Form: https://forms.gle/SqhHxLxuWX8kx8w29 and will comprise:
Up to 5 minutes of yourself playing an (unaccompanied) piece of your choice. Please note that it is also acceptable to submit a video of yourself performing up to 5 minutes of a longer work.
The performance of orchestral excerpts, which are available here. (Please click on the pdf to access the excerpts)
Please note that if two excerpts are listed for your instrument, then you should submit a recording of yourself performing both excerpts.
We do realise that these excerpts are quite challenging however we do not expect you to play them perfectly.
You may either submit one long video or two separate ones (one for your own piece, the other for the excerpts) - whichever is the most convenient for you!
Please note that all applications will be considered for the roles of Leader of the Orchestra and Section Principal. Therefore, if you are interested in applying for either of these positions, there is nothing 'extra' you need to do, other than fill out an application form.
We would also like to reassure you by saying that there is no benefit in using professional standard recording equipment and that the video and audio from a phone will be more than sufficient.
If you have any questions, comments, concerns or problems, please do not hesitate to contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org or via any of our social media channels.
Owing to the current restrictions on socialising, it is with a very heavy heart that we are not accepting applications for percussionists at the present time. This is due to the fact that we do not anticipate that many students will have ready access to percussion in their student house or college, and that DUOS usually provides all the percussion instruments that you may need for auditions, rehearsals, tours and performances. Once the current restrictions have been eased, we will be inviting any budding percussion applicants to audition for the panel in person - please keep an eye out for further information!
Submission of the video
You will need to submit your application via our GoogleForm, which may be found here: https://forms.gle/SqhHxLxuWX8kx8w29
On the form, you will also be required to answer some short questions about your experience, let us know whether you can play any auxiliary instruments, and provide information for Track-and-Trace.
We request that you submit your videos (to the Google Form) by including links to unlisted YouTube uploads. For more information on how to upload an unlisted YouTube video, please refer to the following tutorial: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jaftEW9WI3U
Please rest assured that your audition video(s) will only be made available to the panel; once the audition process is complete, we will delete all the links to all the submissions that we have.
The deadline for submitting your application (by completing all the steps on the Google Form) is Sunday 4th October 11:59pm.
